About
"For me eating together is something that nurtures relationships and offers a sense of family and belonging. It allows for stories to be shared, and things to be learned. Being present with what we consume and aware of the various steps involved to get the food onto our plates is something I respect and encourage people to do. We are all a part of nature, and nourishing ourselves from the world around us is something not to be taken for granted. I have been vegan for about 7 years now, and have found that in this time I have discovered a whole new way of eating, tasting and appreciating food."
She has traveled widely in Europe and in Africa, including a recent cycling trip which took her (and her brother) 14 months down the African continent from Berlin to Cape Town. This time really brought a lot of insight into the lived experiences of people in these countries, including food and cultural practices and of course the diversity of landscape and vegetation. You can read more about this trip here.
Her love for cooking for others and her passion for experimenting with flavours brought her to starting this small business. Over the years, the vegan market has grown substantially, and there are now many more delicious options for vegans in Cape Town as well. By offering a catering service that makes 100% vegan food, Emma hopes to show people that cooking without animal products can be easy, delicious, sustainable and most importantly ethical.
Emma is a self taught chef living in Cape Town.
She grew up on various farms and in a small village in the Karoo, which allowed her to spend plenty of time outdoors and in nature, discovering the small wonders of the world. This nurtured a love for all living things, which now informs the way she lives her life. In 2018 she became fully vegan, and with her brother became increasingly interested in food and the true cost of the food industry as a whole. After studying Fine Art in Cape Town, she has spent the last years between Berlin and Cape Town, gathering various skills, including a permaculture design course which in turn got her interested in the food system as a whole.

"It has always come naturally to me to cook experimentally, looking at the vegetables and then feel inspired by them. Of course there are some exceptions when I suddenly crave a certain thing, a flavour combination or texture, but usually buying ingredients because I see potential for them in a dish is how I work. In my opinion, the best way to tell if your food is going to taste great, is if there is enough colour and texture variation on your plate. "
